Paul Kilmartin (OB 1948-1956)

A notice which has been placed in the Telegraph has been brought to my attention.

Paul was a keen cricketer playing at School and for the OB’s. Like those interested in rugby he had to turn to hockey in the Spring Term.

Although not a player, Paul wrote reports in the Bancroftian on just about every School Rugby match in which I played. When we participated in the Public School Seven a Side competition Paul hired a bus and arranged for a busload of Bancroftians to travel to Richmond to cheer us on.

Later, before Leagues, Paul became Fixture Secretary of the Old Bancroftians’ Football Club, a job he did for nine years, greatly improving our fixture list. He also went on Easter Tour to Paris in 1964, turning up in a dark suit, white shirt with stiff collar and arched tie, complete with bowler hat and rolled umbrella – the complete English gentleman.

Jeremy Bromfield was always very envious of Paul because he had managed to collect a complete set of Wisden’s Cricket Almanac, something only a cricketer would understand.

Although I only saw him rarely he remained a good friend.
