We are an active society with members of all ages and something to suit golfers of all handicaps.
We have seven meetings each year. Three are one day meetings, at courses within an hour drive of the school.
Three are 9 hole events played in the summer starting at 17:30 and followed by sandwiches and the Autumn meeting is now established as a three day get together played in East Anglia.
We also play friendly matches against the School and other school alumni societies. These matches are played on local courses at reduced green fees. They usually start about 4.00 pm and are followed by sandwiches. The format is four ball better ball.
In addition, we enter teams into two scratch foursomes competitions, The Grafton Morrish Public Schools Championship and The Essex Public Schools Championship. We won the latter event in 2005, for only the third time in the event’s 55 year history. We have an annual Scratch competition in the Spring for the Whittingdale Cup.
We are very keen to enlist the help of any OBs with low handicaps for these tournaments and try to provide appropriate financial support.
Within the society we hold an annual Matchplay League competition. This is played throughout the season at courses selected by members.
OBGS members will receive further details, of all events, nearer the time. In addition, more details are posted in this website’s Events Diary. For more details of this facility and how to access it please return to the OBA Home Page.
