Today I have received the sad news from OB John Bain that John died on the 18th March 2023. John was an anthropology educator. A research associate in Uganda, lecturer at King’s and Newnham Colleges Cambridge University, Pitts Rivers Museum Oxford University.

John Kesby was a particular friend during our time at school. I especially remember our holidays, with five of us including John, on a yacht on the Norfolk Broads. He was the ships Ornithologist and Naturalist generally. We lost touch but he has often been in my thoughts with very happy memories. Please could you pass on my condolences to his family.

I was very sorry to receive this sad news. Although contact in later years was sparse, John was one of my best friends at school. John’s interests were wide ranging and I well remember trying to explain some physics problems to him at the same time he was showing me a biography of all of the Roman emperors that he had constructed together with Henry Jennison.
